Been thinking of trying to make a needle felted marionette for a while after having made a few finger puppets using the technique. Now that I’ve got a couple of armature based projects under my belt I felt the time was right to see if I could crack a marionette.

I’m aiming for a troll or similar creature but I’m just going to see what appears. Started with the feet and I’m using North Ronaldsay wool. Very different to the merino I’ve used until now. Shorter fibres and lots of tougher little darker parts but so far it’s easy to form the shape and seems told detail nicely. The foot on the left of the shot is slightly further on than the other one with a bit more shaping done around the toes. I’ll post pics of the troll as he/she develops at different stages.
