Planting Fruit trees on Earth Day

22nd April 2010:

On the 50 th Anniversary of Earth Day, this is Maggie, head of our propagation (Budding and Grafting) division on our Organic farm. She is helping 10 other workers to inter-plant about 1000 fruit tree seedlings in about 5 hectares of traditional forest, on EARTH DAY.

This is a short video of the celebrations:

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day!
Back in 1970 over 20 million Americans took to the streets to demand a change in perspective from the unchecked ravages of the industrial age on the natural world.
Before the end of 1970, the United States created the Environmental Protection Agency. Soon after we saw the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.
This is powerful reminder that activism can really make a difference!
In 1990, Earth Day went global, uniting over 140 countries. Environmental issues were now brought into the mainstream narrative around the world.

Today, Earth Day is the largest recognized, non-religious holiday in the world, with over 1 billion people celebrating a "day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes."
As we continue our work at Earth Conscious Life, raising the awareness of global soil health – and the solutions we already have which can heal our planet – we hope you will take some time out today to participate however you can.

For some, that could mean starting a new garden, or finally committing to composting by purchasing a compost bin!
For others that could be pledging to do a plastic free week.
And for some, it could be as simple as taking some extra time outside to connect with a tree, take off your socks and get grounded, or simply practice a peaceful moment of gratitude in Nature.
Maybe you'll feel called to donate to an environmental organization, or watch an eco-friendly film with the family. :)
However you participate, we are sincerely grateful to have you as part of the team!
Let's start the new habits today that we can carry through the whole year.
In the midst of our current crisis, it's important to acknowledge how the natural world is being given a chance to heal in unprecedented ways.

Cities in India are seeing the Himalayan mountains for the first time in their lives from the clearing of smog pollution. The Venice Canals are the clearest they've been in 60 years, with dolphins returning. Turtles are returning to lay eggs on beaches where they haven't been spotted in decades. The air quality in Los Angeles is the cleanest it's been in 40 years.
Healing is possible. But we mustn't rely on a global pandemic to get our environmental act together. How can we carry this ecosystem healing forward into the new paradigm?
As we take time now to envision a better, healthier society, let us remember that the sum of our individual beliefs and actions will determine the outcome of our collective future. We are all in this together.

Have a laugh as well
