No longer elusive
A rare trip out this afternoon, to Kelso, to fetch our 'click-and-collect' shopping order. Thought our order was huge but, judging by the size of those brought to the cars in front and behind us, we're not the only ones shopping for more than one household. Inevitable in a rural area.
On the way there we passed this standing stone, in a field close to the bottom of Yeavering Bell, aka 'Hill of the Goats'. The 'elusive' herd of wild goats that graze the area is no longer so elusive - this is the second time in a fortnight that we've seen the goats quite close to the road in a field of crops. They seem to be thriving - there were around 100 altogether, of all ages, from tiny kids to great big old grandfathers gruff! On the way back we peered over the wall from the car, to see most of them gathered around the stone as if performing some ancient rite of the hill goats!
Exercise late in the afternoon consisted of walking to deliver two loads of shopping, each deposited on the doorstep before the recipient came out to fetch it and have a brief chat, at a distance of course.
At 8.00pm, more banging of the drum in appreciation of key workers and the NHS...
Lockdown, day 31
