Avoiding the Frost
We needed to take Jenny a document we had printed for her so we decided to walk over to her house and then run home, which was really good if a little warm. It was good to see Jen, albeit briefly, and also to hear from Becky, with a photo of Euan looking fed up because of all the zoom calls they have to attend! Hopefully, they will have had enough of a break some time during the day to get outside. Becky's lab has now been redeployed to working on the virus and so they are both very busy.
Back home we had our cuppas and then Tony went up to the stream to get a couple of watering cans of water to go in the pond, which is suffering in this heatwave we are having. It is squirming with tadpoles and so he needs to avoid the level dropping too far. By then it was time for lunch, following which Tony went up to the allotment to do some potting on. It sounds like we are going to have a cornfield of dreams because so many of the seeds have germinated! Meanwhile, I set about cleaning the kitchen floor and tidying the study so we can actually sit down on the settee in there. It was strewn with recorder and exercise stuff!
I also made some extremely naughty desserts - strawberry marshmallow mousses, as we have some strawberries which need using. The recipe cannot be easily halved, so the neighbours have taken some away.
Despite the sunny weather which continues, there is still the chance of frost at this time of year, so the hanging baskets Tony has made up will have to stay in the greenhouse a little longer. Thankfully the village garden centre was doing a delivery service so we were able to do a phone order for the bedding plants. It's a busy time of year for them usually so it's good news that they have been able to keep on some staff and also make some money.
