A cú-slyppe

The cowslip Primula veris, one of our most beautiful spring flowers. However, some would have it that cowslip once meant cowpat, from the  Old English cú-slyppe ,  cú cow + slyppe viscous or slimy substance, Our ancestors had noted that they tended to flower where a cow had deposited!

Extra. I have been giving some thought as to how we might encourage social distancing. Perhaps the fashion industry could do their bit by encouraging the return of the pannier skirt. The only drawback would be that we chaps would have to wear them too.
