Flower Friday : : Lucky Strike

The roses have sprung forth, seemingly overnight...so many of them that I cut a dozen or so to bring into the house. The Lucky Strike rose is my favorite and I love their delicate color. The bee was industriously burrowing down into the base of the petals, although I couldn't see any pollen down there.

SoilMan planted the tomatoes today. It is quite warm and he had to come down and change into his shorts during the process. When he was finished, he had to come in and lie down in a darkened room mumbling things about heat exhaustion.

In the meantime I puttered around harvesting roses and oranges, spring onions and the first of the peas...all five of them! The potato patch is bursting with healthy green leaves.

Our lovely Kathy stopped by and left a bottle of rosé from a winery near her and a half dozen eggs from her chickens. Has it really been six weeks since we saw her last? Her repurposed scarf kept slipping off her nose, so I gave her a couple of face masks with chickens on them.

In an effort to mark the fact that it is both warm enough to sit outside and Friday, I decided to invite the neighbors to come with their drink of choice, and sit in our driveway in appropriately spaced chairs. Not five minutes after sending the text I heard a report from a doctor from New Zealand saying that "if you have a meeting at the bottom of your driveway with your neighbors for a glass of wine, don't. Even if you are staying two meters apart". She then proceeded to explain that the two meters is for when you are passing someone on a road or in a grocery store. We are meant to keep moving, not lingering for any length of time to chat or sip wine.

Damn! Was she spying on me? Her explanation made sense, but it really came at the wrong time...Then another neighbor texted me this (It's the forth Brittany Baggett down...the one with the video...watch the whole thing. It's hilarious) and restored my faltering good humor...it clears up everything perfectly.

At least John and I can sit in our garden and drink the wine...all of it!
