LEST WE FORGET.....

.... quite a "special" Anzac Day with the Covid 19 isolation and no mass gatherings.
Normally here, and "across the ditch" in New Zealand we all had special memories of lost ones, and April 25th is a day to reflect on the sacrifice our troops made defending our shores and helping in major battles overseas. Some joined as young as 14 years of age just knowing it was what they wanted to do but without really knowing what lay ahead!

As the day drew closer and all major activities were cancelled, the ANZAC spirit rose and it was set that we would all remember from our driveways with neighbours.

Well, it may well become another extension of this special day, in years to come. It was amazing to see how we all in our own way rose at dawn to be together in the street to reflect and "remember"!

This news report from Channel 9 shows just how it all unfolded. To me the way the younger ages came up with their own way for the day, in particular playing of the Last Post etc... watch the report and you will see what I mean.

And a "special" lone bugler atop the Harbour Bridge - here.

My Dad was a pilot in the Australian Air Force flying in the North of Australia defending Darwin etc from the Japanese approach.

Have used his medals as my Blip.

Although the normal footy games were not played - many still found a way of holding the "two up" spins.

To me the best part was how by "default" of the Covid virus restrictions, had the young step up and be involved and show the tradition will be living on for many years to come.

Thanks for calling by, and if you have followed my "Back when Series" this one shows Dad in his uniform with Mum.
