Boat Person Priest
Went tonight, with M and Mishkid, to the annual "Christian Unity Service" at our closest Roman Catholic church, Holy Trinity. The "homily" was a riveting story by the priest, Father Michael, describing how he escaped from Vietnam in 1975 - one of the "boat people".
The ship that rescued him and 77 others (including a newborn baby boy that he had just delivered), from certain death on a tiny fishing boat was British, which is why he chose to come to Britain and has tried to repay his debt ever since.
He said we should be proud to be British - never mind the weather - we are a kind people.
