Bee Fly

I found this bee fly ( bombylius major) feeding on forget-me-nots in the garden.  Although it looks a bit like a bumble bee it is a hovering fly easily recognised by its very long feeding proboscis a third of the length of its body.  It makes a continuous high pitched buzz and continues to hover even when holding onto flowers
