Running on empty

Like a lot of people I’ve been giving running a try since we locked down.

It’s not something I was ever good at even when I was young. I never really saw the point. I liked sports where there was a tangible objective like a goal, or a basket, or managing to hit a ball back over a net more often than your opponent. Running fast enough to cover a short distance faster than someone else never appealed. Partly because I couldn’t most of the time.

But I’ve now managed to reach the point where I can run 5K without stopping - which gives me a surprising feeling of achievement.

Admittedly elderly people with a zimmer laden down with shopping bags routinely overtake me, but still .....
