The Rocky Coast Of Maine
After 5 weeks of not going too far from home, the forecast today was for clear skies and 63F temperatures. I took a ride to the coast. The towns of Ogonquit and York are bustling in the summer months and on a day like today would be too as the shops and restaurants are beginning to open again for the season. Not this year though. At the very least one would be able to walk on the beaches. Not so today. Very few cars, some walkers and very few open businesses. There was one market open, taking telephone orders and prepaid with credit cards which they brought out to the curb for delivery. The parking lots at the beach were cordoned off and no one allowed on. I went with a friend and we ate in the car, walked to the yellow tape for a photo after lunch and inhaled some lovely sea breezes. After about 20 minutes, the police came and asked the few visitors that were nearby to please leave. We did find a gas station a few miles down the road that had a fantastic bakery inside. We stopped to use the rest rooms - greeted at the door by a man handing out sterile gloves and only 5 people allowed in at a time. Had to pick up a little something because he was kind enough to let us use the loo, delicious eclairs (small) which we took to Nubble Light (in extra) to have a sweet treat, again gazing out at the sea from the car.
It was good to get out, visit with a friend that I don't see often and enjoy a beautiful day near the sea. We talked and laughed and were hoarse by the time we got back. Tomorrow more rain and cold.
