An Old Airman's Life

Community Garden

I decided to grow a garden this year. It has been years and years and years since the last time I tried. I have a couple friends who are willing to help. Our plot is about half way between this sign and the back fence. Right now, it is a weedy soft soiled 4 foot by 8 foot sand box. I hope that I enjoy this venture enough that I will be blipping weekly about all the abundance.

One my partners has grown a garden in her own yard last year. The other is a master gardener. They have already started growing stuff from seeds in little pots. I have started thinking about what seeds look like and that they come in little paper packages.

Also, they compost stuff. I guess I will be doing that as well for the first time. When I was a kid we threw garbage in a 55 gallon barrel. It was always fun to burn that up. Since moving downtown, I separate the recycle from the trash. It is fun to throw the trash down the chute and hear it bounce on the side. Looking at vegetable products rotting in a bucket doesn't sound as much fun.
