Dufton Village with the Fountain and Limes. 

This continues the story of the village, as this Fountain was part of the water system that the London Lead Company installed. It was erected in 1858 as the water system was completed and was meant to be ornamental and serve as a horse trough. The Avenue of Lime trees was planted in 1892 and is a wonderful feature of the village, the trees looking their very best now with the new green leaves. Both the Fountain and the avenue of Limes appear in every image of our village, on every postcard and leaflet and website.

In the end this is probably just right for the time and for my Eight Year Blip. It reflects my interest in finding and recording the history all around us and of course instead of wandering around the county and the country finding out, I have stayed at home and looked and found out at home. 

Eight Years 
Hard to believe, as everyone says, that it is possible to have posted a photo every day, and virtually every one on the day, for eight years. Lots of friends made, lots of links and interesting conversations. I love this caring, positive, wonderful little world we have. And don’t we just need it at the current time. 


And this was after one year - almost at the top of Dufton Pike looking down on the same village in today’s photo.
