The double-edged sword

Having failed to join Dan swimming in the Lune on Saturday, I'd had it in my mind that I'd give it a go yesterday but, frankly, the weather wasn't up to it. There might have been an opportunity, today, when the warmth and sunshine were restored but we didn't go out for our walk until I'd finished work and that felt a little late.

I took this photo as we crossed Devil's Bridge on our way to walk up and around Casterton. I'd joked that Dan could navigate our route and that led us on to talking about his temporarily aborted course of driving lessons. He's coping so well that I sometimes forget the impact that this lockdown is having on his life; he should be taking his driving test around now and discovering that new freedom of being able to drive. Our current situation is quite the reverse.

He spends three or four hours a day practising the double bass and guitar, which is quite inspirational. This morning it was becoming clearer just how much tighter his bass playing is getting and this afternoon I didn't play any music downstairs where I was working so that I could hear his beautiful guitar playing coming from above. Something wonderful is coming out of this confinement despite the frustrations.
