Treasure Trove
Tiny Tuesday: Junk
OK, so some of this is certainly junk, but not all of it. In this little box we have:
Dad's stainless steel watch from the 1950s (not collectable in any way and probably not working), of sentimental value, but definitely junk;
A non-precious metal fob watch chain with compass made by Millers of Cairo, which (amazingly enough) given its age, actually be worth something to a keen steampunk enthusiast.
A small pen knife that used to belong to my grandad engraved "Staples Mattress" - a freebie given to him as a furniture sales person I suspect.
A pair of dice where the face which would have the single spot advertises the 43 brand of cigarrillos. Grandad used to smoke :-)
A British silver 1916 three pence piece from the reign of King George V. Definitely not junk!
Finally, the box itself - which is definitely not junk. This small (fairly rustically) carved wooden box with a hinged lid bears the signature of my French grandmother in permanent ink on its base "Mlle Marie Borde". Marie is quite an interesting person and I will come back to her in a future blip.
The morning was spent sorting out Dad's affairs, followed by a little ironing whilst listening to music. After lunch I found time to bake a spelt loaf and play a lot of guitar. My fingers are aching but I really enjoyed it.
