Preening magpie

After lunch I went for a drive down to the Shellharbour Village foreshore, Shellharbour South Beach, the Bass Point Reserve, and Killalea State Park, hoping to get some shots of big waves that I thought might have resulted from the recent storms. However, there was nothing particularly spectacular, so I stopped at one of the picnic areas in the Killalea State Park, hoping to find some other subjects.

I saw a dozen or so birds flitting in and out of a large fig tree, and went to investigate, but they were rather skittish, and all flocked off before I could get decent photograph. From the one blurry shot I did get, they appear to have been White-headed Pigeons (Columba leucomela). I expect they were feeding on the abundant figs, so I'll go back tomorrow about the same time to see if they've returned to feed, and perhaps get a clear shot.

As I walked back to my car I spotted a juvenile Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) on a branch above it, preening its feathers. Unlike the pigeons, it was unperturbed by my presence, hence my blip for today.
