Inside out

A view from our bedroom window this morning. Glorious day; some dozing in the garden, making sourdough, and more reading of The Mirror and the Light. The other day I looked up Mantel's Reith lectures from 2017, which I had never got around to. She's ferociously intelligent and forensic in her examination of the relationship between history and historical fiction. I've listened to the first two so far -- highly recommended. I'll enjoy the third this evening.

Lunch was poulet antiboise, an Elizabeth David recipe of chicken potroasted with lots of onions. Served with a local wine from Calvente in Jete. Strawberries and cream for afters. We won't need anything further to eat this evening.

Yesterday we managed to buy masks, gloves, and hand gel from the chemist at the bottom of the road! A first. The masks are ridiculously flimsy. The 96-centime one fell apart before I even got home, and the 5-euro ones aren't massively better. But at least we'll look the part. With plans for easing the lockdown advancing, we've started to envisage going home. Although today was so glorious that I'm quite happy to stay here!
