The grindstone.

This one came from a coopers yard in Fraserburgh.

One of the most unusual gravestones in North East Scotland must be the grindstone in Strichen Kirkyard which was used as a grave marker for James Jaffrey, a local blacksmith. It is said that his widow carried his grindstone from his smiddy to the kirkyard on her back.

The inscription reads, 'Here are deposited in hop (sic) of a blessed Resurrection the Remains of James Jaffrey B. S. sometime in Cairndel who departed this life June 16th, 1770 aged 57 years.'

Many thanks to everyone who commented on my Blipday entry yesterday.
