Broken
I've been using 2 cameras, tripod-mounted and operated either tethered or by WiFi from a phone, to capture photos of birds on two feeders in the back garden recently. One problem is that the batteries need to be replaced 3 or 4 times a day. When I came to open the battery compartment on the old Olympus OM-D E-M1 on Saturday the lever which unlocks the battery cover came off in my hand. It seems that the fixing had broken. After a search on the internet I found that the whole of the cover is very easily removed. I emailed Olympus here in the UK to enquire about getting a replacement cover. By mid morning on Monday I had a reply, directing me to contact a repair company about getting the appropriate spare. I emailed them, and by mid afternoon they replied with details of what I needed and the price. So a replacement is now on order, and due to be posted to me on Thursday (they are operating shortened hours during Covid restrictions). I think this is very good service in these difficult times, and the price of £10 for the whole cover, plus £3.50 postage, is quite reasonable - the extra shows that although the lever itself is quite small and simple, the entire cover and mechanism is quite complicated.
Not sure if I will get the replacement on Friday, and of course there is now no post on Saturday, so it's likely to be next week before it arrives.
