A Man And A Boat

Spring sprang again today for the third time this season.  Jon and I did take a ride to the coast and Portsmouth in particular since that was the easiest place to find a parking spot.  If it had been a normal May 2nd though, there would have been none.  We were able to get out and take a walk through the city a little and along Strawberry Banke, an outdoor (and indoor) museum of living history. We stayed outdoors and it was good for the soul.

A little about Strawberry Banke here:
"Today's Strawbery Banke takes its name from the original settlement (1630) on this spot, itself named after the wild strawberries that carpeted the river meadows. The port town beside a tidal inlet of the Piscataqua River at the northernmost point on New Hampshire's coast soon changed its name to Portsmouth, and was a prosperous center for fisheries, shipyards and commerce until the 20th century, when it fell on hard times. The town whose wharves had been lined with West Indies merchant schooners became a backwater so literally that its original harbor silted up altogether."


Today Portsmouth is a bustling city with galleries and restaurants, high tech offices and a very urban chic atmosphere.
