Swine market

Coming up Mill Brow from the river, you reach a crossroads of sorts: straight on brings you to the junction where Market Street and Main Street meet; turning left takes you onto Horse Market, which in turn leads on to the site of the old cattle market; and just on your right is the Swine Market.

Smack in the middle it is the Market Cross, which was moved here from Market Street in 1819, the year before the new - and still current - market place opened. On a quiet, sunny afternoon in the middle of lockdown, it's hard to envisage the hustle and bustle that must have gone on here on market day.

In the far corner of the Swine Market is a little cobbled lane that leads up into the churchyard and that's the route Dan and I took. We were lucky again with the weather for our walk; it was absolutely pouring earlier, today.
