So... Chris is on the mend. I took the kids in to see him earlier on today and they were happy to get a cuddle and to see that his eye had not come out.

The surgeon has (kindly?) given Chris the 'foreign body' that had (in the aforementioned surgeon's words) "travelled through the lens and the iris with such velocity that it is exceptionally lucky that it did not bounce off the retina, but rather stopped short and lodged in the vitreous humour* narrowly missing the optic nerves"

The surgeon also explained that it was a very clean entry through the lens- but even so, today it became evident that there is a cataract forming and there will inevitably be more surgery. But, on the plus side, Chris should get out tomorrow and then we can customise his eye patch...
