the past
My requested monitor was delivered by work today, albeit with an enormous laptop-excluding stand which will prevent it being immediately used and with only a DVI lead. It turns out that the monitor doesn't even have an HDMI socket, but fortunately the lowest common denominator of a VGA port could be found on both laptop and monitor. They had supplied no cable, but great fortune meant that there are two in the house. The monitor's maximum resolution only equals the laptop's, so there will have to be some rearrangements of workspaces to let the greater size be of any benefit.
