The Mirror and the Light
So after weeks of photos of the garden, stand by for weeks of beach blips. It really was glorious this morning, not a breath of wind, sky and sea a tremulous pale blue, and the sea like a mirror with not a wave to be seen. If you had a canoe that you could transport to the beach without a car (not allowed) you were highly privileged. It must have been blissful out there. I dipped my feet in. It was cold but not unbearable, and I would have happily swum in it. No news on when that will be allowed. We also saw a few people we knew, which was nice even if you can't stand around talking.
Back home we had egg, bacon, mushrooms and fried tomatoes, with Danish pastries to follow. After that it was a perfect day to sit in the shade on the terrace. I finished listening to the Reith lectures and now I'm halfway through The Mirror and the Light.
I also made the biscuits PaulaJ blipped the other day. They turned out flat and not round like hers, but that's probably because I only had drinking chocolate and not cocoa. I adjusted the recipe to use more chocolate and less sugar, but I'm sure cocoa would have absorbed more liquid and the dough wouldn't have been so soft even after an hour in the fridge. They taste good though.
For our walk this evening we did a short errand to drop a jar of loquat jam off for Bea, followed by a circuit well away from the sea front. Far fewer people to dodge. We passed by the market. The council took advantage of lockdown to call in a firm from outside Almuñecar and have it completely demolished. It's just a hole in the ground now. So no-one will ever know just how structurally unsound it really was.
Home, apero with fried aubergines and miel de caña.
