Bottle-shaking Sunday

Eye Keld Well, Greystoke

I felt sure this had been blipped before, either by Paula or Clickychick, but I had a search this morning and couldn’t find it.

As you will all probably know, the first Sunday of May is ‘Bottle-shaking Sunday’, so I prepared yesterday by buying some ‘Spanish’ and today I set off on my bike. I passed Skirsgill, traditionally the first well visited on the first weekend of May but I didn’t fancy venturing onto private property at this time and I had only recently visited anyway ...

So, I headed on to Greystoke and the Eye Keld well where I shook my bottle vigorously and drank the Spanish water. It’s believed that this might have been one of St.Kentigern’s / St.Mungo’s preaching spots.

Then I headed on towards Ullswater, passing St.Mary’s well near Hutton on the way ...

The lockity goldings are out down by the lake so I’ll have to blip those soon. Also heard another cuckoo.

Well shattered now ... this exercise malarkey is exhausting and doesn’t seem to get any easier.
