Sally Mair - Loving life

..... In a pear tree...

We have a pear and an apple tree in our back garden, both are pretty elderly. When we arrived the apple tree was pretty neglected and didn't have many apples but over the years we've gradually managed to retrieve it and now we get a good crop of apples which are good for both eating and cooking. The pear tree (blipped) on the other hand used to be very fruitful but has gradually developed more and more canker and we are now lucky if we get a dozen pears from it. This year it has been covered with blossom and the fruit looks as if it is setting well. We'll just have to wait and see if they fall as usual or manage to stay on and ripen. Fingers crossed because they are delicious.

I noticed that of the 15 radishes I planted on Tuesday, 13 are already sprouted! I had heard that they had a good success rate, but that is amazingly quick. I'll get some more in at the end of this week to ensure a constant supply.

I didn't sleep well last night I've had a bit of an upset stomach the last couple of days and I think that just made me even more restless. As a result I haven't left the house today which feels very strange.

Online church this morning both from my own church and then the Provincial service led by the Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness from his Chapel in Arpafeelie.

This afternoon I decided that it was time to polish the wooden furniture in dining room, hall and lounge as it's been looking very neglected of late. It took me the best part of two hours, it gets dusted off and on but I really felt it needed to be polished, so now it is!

We had a video chat with the girls a bit later on, they are so full of energy it must be exhausting. Lovely to see them all, Isobel finished off by hugging the phone to give me a cuddle. What a sweetie.

Colin cooked today as I felt I shouldn't really be preparing food with an upset stomach, but it was a fairly straightforward meal as we were on the second half of Friday's lasagne. I wonder if the incidents of salmonella and ecoli will drop after this experience as we are all so much more in the way of frequent hand-washing.

Keep well everybody, the start of another week and we are into May already. How amazing, the weeks are flying by.
