Pantelleria

This morning saw the peak of the volcanic island of Pantelleria looming out of the haze,  clouds crowding its windward slopes. As made our way past they thinned out and allowed a view of the whole of this little known outpost of Italy.

Last erupted in 1891, but apparently it is now subsiding back into the sea as the magma underneath is cooling.
