The New Normal

We choose secluded walks.
Other walkers walk them too
although we only spot a few.
It’s a plan that works.

It’s what we used to do anyway,
so that’s nothing new,
but we’d pass the time of day
if we met someone we knew.

Now, of course, we pointedly stand aside
and let the other walkers through;
unless the path’s two metres wide
that’s the safest thing to do.
