Piano Music of the Civil War
Mom and I went to a great piano concert at the Aiken Historical Museum featuring Confederate piano music. Needless to say we had never heard any of the selections before being from the aggressive north. The selections were great especially the last piece. It was titled the Rainstorm and it was written by Blind Tom when he was 11 years old. It was fantastic. Tom was indeed blind, son of two black slaves who died. Tom was taken in by the owners family Ave discovered to be a prodigy. At the end of his career he had composed pieces and could play by memory over 7000 piano pieces. (Dr. David Thompson from Limestone College,SC is performing. )
