Woody Wednesday (Wednesday 6th May 2020)

It was Woody Wednesday in the garden today when Refna came over to do her thing, having been rained off the week before. By contrast it was a perfect morning for gardening. One of the tasks she chose for the day was to reshape this "iCloud". There were no red kites in sight this morning but I did see a group of swifts pass over, my first sighting of the year.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Stir It Up (Jamaican Mix) (recorded May - October 1972, Jamaica)
When the Deluxe Edition of this album was released in 2002 it contained a digitally remastered copy of the 1973 album as released worldwide. This had been created in three Jamaican studios and then at Island's Notting Hill studios in November to December, where the producer Chris Blackwell together with Bob Marley had added various extra instrumentation designed to appeal to Western audiences. These included the steel guitar of Wayne Perkins, 'Rabbit' Bundricks' synths, clavinet and organ, Tyrone Downie's keyboards and some extra percussionists.
More interestingly, for the first time the original Jamaican tapes as newly mixed by Errol Brown were included, giving the listener a chance to hear the unsweetened, unadorned sounds of the Wailers together with Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths' backing vocals (not yet the full I Threes).
I had the original album but have just acquired the 2CD version with these previously unreleased mixes, of which this is one. A self-produced earlier version of the song had been recorded by 'Bob Marley and the Wailing Wailers' for their own Wail'n Soul'm label in 1967. For comparison, this is the 1973 released Island/Tuff Gong version, complete with overdubs.
