Brand New Numbers...

A busy day cattle wise today .
The man here to PD 120 cows and freeze brand the 34 in calf heifers.
The shed full that I was most concerned about turned out to all be in calf. I have never seen the Blonde bull actually working but he must be shy as he has them all in calf.
This was one of the heifers getting her freeze brand. These brass irons are chilled in dry ice then placed on the skin for a short time. This kills the pigment in the hair leaving a white permanent mark. We use a different letter every year, a bit like car number plates used to be, followed by a number . This year it was the letters N1- N 34.
Once they heifers were done we ran them out to a field. Hopefully the weather stays kind !
