Canal boat adventures
Today I enlivened my morning walk with a podcast interview with Sandy McKinnon. In 1998 Sandy set off in an 11 foot mirror dinghy somewhere in Shropshire, aiming to get to Gloucester in a few days. He became so caught up in the adventure that he kept going, across England, across the Channel, through Europe... More than a year later he ended up at the mouth of the Danube. His book is called The unlikely voyage of Jack de Crow.
This reminded me of our English canal boat adventure, back in 1984. As a voyage it doesn't compare with Sandy's. In two weeks we travelled 104 miles, at a maximum speed of 4mph. But as an adventure? Ah yes, it was magical.
