Two moors
walk this morning.
A perfect morning for a walk on the moor. Not as clear as yesterday but warmer.
Climbed up to Harden Moor from Moor Edge, very peaceful in the woods apart from an Alsatian that leapt out at Chris and nearly frightened him to death!
Lovely skies in all directions. Lots of fresh green from the many young Beech trees that seem to be growing up and lovely bog cotton to be seen as well as a great number of berries coming on the bilberry bushes.
At the top of the moor, where access is easier from the road, there were a number of dog walkers. We don’t dislike dogs but one group were spread right across the path. A couple with two smaller dogs on leads and another woman, who certainly wasn’t social distancing from them, had three unleashed dogs. Two more Alsatians and a Labrador bounded all over us. Nothing said as we waited patiently off the path for them to pass!
No more issues as we crossed the road onto Catstones Moor.
Crossing the area of the fire two summers ago, as seen in the blip, and looking towards the village of Cullingworth to the left.
Beyond the distant hill is Haworth (of the Bronte sisters) and Oxenhope (of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway)
Saw a number of butterflies today. More Small Coppers, it was near where we saw one before, a speedy Orange tip and some thing very small that settled too briefly for me to get a snap but which had bright green wings. A Green Hairstreak?
As usual back home in time for coffee.
Planted up some Alliums which came in the post this afternoon
Stay safe everyone and enjoy the good weather for tomorrow’s celebratory VE Day Bank holiday (UK) safely and with consideration for others.
A thought for lovely Molly for those who remember her today
