Passing Through
Every day that I have walked to work, I have walked past the Parish Church of St. Cuthbert. At the foot of the entrance gates are two traditional lamp posts who stand opposite each other. Their lantern-type heads are unusual in that they are not perfectly erect, rather they lean over, like two elderly gentlemen cocking their hats to each other in revering respect.
I go past each day in the hope of taking a photo but more often than not a banner promoting the church's activities is tied to each post, thus impairing the view of these elder statesmens' gestures.
However, there is much more to see in this churchyard, with its deep green shades of moss dressing the old, weary stone. Mausoleums of elaborate gothic design sit on forest-green carpets whilst simple gravestones have words inscribed that warm the heart.
And up above between earth and sky, sits Edinburgh Castle, the city's protector. It's a wonderful sight.
Perhaps tomorrow I'll be able to take a picture of my two elder statesmen.
