Home on the range or Hi Ho Silver!

The cool blustery northerly wind abated today giving a much warmer day. A walk on the North Downs Way this morning, past some workers who were planting a huge field with vines. This is the second field near us and the third area in the locality where new vines have been planted that we know about.

A south-facing chalk soil must be good for vines as it is the same terroir as the Champagne region of France. Of course, our sparkling white wine has often been judged better than the French champagne, just don't tell the French! We saw lots of skylarks rising and singing while we were walking up this path and a charm of goldfinches too.

An afternoon at the allotment which mostly involved beheading mares tails. I can spot one even if the smallest piece of its evil head is poking out of the soil. You can never defeat them only keep them at bay by regular hoeing and scraping at the soil near to seedlings with a sharp knife on your hands and knees.

Meanwhile, Susan was in her studio working on her latest creation. Seems its a compilation of different images. We will wait and see the outcome with eager anticipation.
