Hepatica (Hepatica noblis or Anemone hepatica)
Did some admin today, trying to sort the problem of a choir that no longer exists but does have a tax number and an (empty) bank account. After some information searching I eventually sent two letters off to the tax authority, and one to the bank. We shall see if I succeeded in the next month.
A lot of time in the afternoon went to washing our two cars. This is a spring ritual and takes a lot more time than you’d think. They have accumulated a lot of dirt in the winter, both inside and out. However, a dirty or clean car is not particularly interesting picture-wise, so in the end my picture shows some Hepatica, Hepatica noblis, liver wort, (blåsippa) growing in a piece of woodland separating our neighbour's garden from ours.
Like the wood anemone I blipped a few days ago it is very popular in Sweden, rather as blue bells are in the UK. It is a real marker that spring is here and grows throughout the country. It’s so popular that it is a protected species, despite being found almost everywhere. It grows in our garden and in the forest around the house.
Interestingly it has two pages on the English language Wikipedia, Hepatica and Anemone Hepatica, because, if I understand rightly, some botanists place it in the anemone family, while others don’t, maintaining that Hepatica is the family. At first I thought this very strange, but after reading the discussion on the chat pages I decided it was actually a strength of Wikipedia. The matter is undecided, there are two views, so let there be two pages until the plant experts come to a decision.
Anyway, the important point for me is that it looks very lovely growing in woodland in dappled sunlight, very close to home.
