2013 Queensland Floods

It happened once in '74, again in 2011 but no one expected another one only 2 years later.

This photo doesn't explain a lot but the Australia day long weekend turned into a memorable one, but one that many would like to forget.

Ex-tropical cyclone Oswald moved down the east coast of Queensland over the weekend, dumping vast amount of rainfall in a very short 48 hour period across the state and winds of up to 100kmh were recorded in Brisbane and even faster in other areas of the state.

Severe flash flooding has ravaged the southern half of the state, 4 people lost their lives, thousands lost their homes. For the second time the Brisbane river has broken its banks into the lower lying regions of the city for the second time in 2 years- thankfully not as bad as it was in 2011. Bundaberg has been the area affected the most with flood waters isolating and inundating the town and its surrounds.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost their lives, their homes and everyone else affected by this natural disaster.

It isn't much to show at all and we got off safely and quite easily in retrospect- but this is a picture of the beer garden and what greeted us on Tuesday morning, after a weekend of intense rain and cyclonic winds shredded the leaves and branches off our mighty fig tree.

It may be easy for to destroy a house, but it is bloody hard to destroy the spirit of a Queenslander.
