75 Years
A bit of a VE 75 year street party today. We did not join in - too much of a risk. We sat outside on our front lawn with cups of tea, declined offers of cake from our neighbours, said hello to Winston (a neighbours dog), and then decided to beat a retreat, But good that people were having fun, including “ fancy dress” (extra).
Chatted to my Mum on the phone about her memories. She was a real land girl, no fancy dress. She spent Tuesday May 8th 1945 alone, in private digs, Her friends had all gone back to their families. But she had left Yorkshire because she wanted to get away from her stepmother and working in the mills, loved the outdoors, and was not going back. Without her making the decision to stay and make a new life on her own in the south, I would not be here.
Meanwhile - Herb Robert is flowering everywhere, so that’s the blip this Friday. It’s my favourite “weed”.
Bird note - first swifts spotted far overhead.
