Stepping Out

White Stork - Pensthorpe Nature Reserve Big Stork

Today we have visited Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and Garden. The BBC 'Springwatch' programme was broadcast from there a few years ago.

They have had a lot of flooding so only part of the reserve was open. We watched the 3pm 'feeding time' and that was very entertaining. The gulls know that this happens and try to get in on the act. The woman doing the feeding and giving the talk said they have tried a number of tactics to stop the gulls from getting all the food, jumping and waving arms seems to work best. It was a real feeding frenzy with all sorts of ducks and geese.

The white storks didn't care too much for the feeding lady, she pointed out one in particular that really can't stand her. When she walked through their pen, the storks threw their heads right back over their backs and made a yack-yack-yack-tack-yack sound. It was funny, but it would have got me running out of there. By the way, we didn't find any unexpected babies behind any bushes.

I was hoping to bump into Chris Packham, no luck there. We did have a lunch, even something vegan for Mr H and a coffee and cake after our tour around. A grand day out.
