The root of the problem

Between work calls, I got a bit more gardening done.

I keep being asked why our grass is so patchy and bumpy. When we bought the house 15 years ago, there were huge trees down both sides of the garden making it way too dark for decent grass. And the roots of the trees had come to the surface in lots of places. Over the years, a lot of the trees have come down; a few have fallen down, and quite a few had to be taken down for our neighbours extension and the replacement of the substation.

But the roots!!! Today I dug up this old root, just under the surface of the lawn. It was medium-difficult really. It easily snapped once I’d got some leverage. But these roots are why our lawn is poor (plus dogs and the football and the cricket ....).

Also today, Elbows uncle died suddenly. He was 88 and wasn’t ill, and it wasn’t Covid.
Although he’d been married 3 times, he didn’t have any children of his own. He was a kind kind man. Sad Elbows.
