Checking the Girth

Here Mr P is checking the girth, in arm spans of this very old tree we saw on our walk round Park Wood, Sizergh and Helsington today. I've found it on the Ancient Tree Register - tree ID 196773 a Common Ash  with suspected Chalara fraxinea now called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, that's  ash die back to you and me. Shots of the complete tree and its leaves are in extras, its not doing too badly considering its ancientness.  The Tuesday Run group all got back and had a  Zoom lunch.

Day 53
627 deaths today bringing the total to 32,692 . That's deaths from people who have had a positive test. Apparently on 1 May when the deaths figure was about 27,000 a further 6000 people had died with suspected Covid#19 written on their death certificate by their doctor, that's about another 25%.
No news yet on the testing pilot in the Isle of Wight. I'm surprised they are relaxing restrictions before mass testing is available.  People are very worried about going back to work when there are still thousands of new cases being confirmed every day. It would be good to know where these cases are.
The furlough scheme is being extended with variations to October.
