Boughing down !

I had a change of scene today on my daily walk as I guessed that the cold, wet gloom would deter most people from being out and about ( with the exception of people with small boys or lively dogs) .So took the path through the park and woods looking out for a particular arboreal feature. I’ve been reading about a clever trick that ancient trees use to stop them falling over ,as they often get top heavy . They send a bough or two  down to the ground  which then act as props so that they don’t topple over in strong winds . I came across this beech  tree which was growing upright but had sent two boughs down , they in turn were both sprouting new, upright growth . I couldn’t get in the right position to take a satisfactory shoot, this was the best I could manage .
This morning I had a nice long video chat with our Swedish family whilst Dave was online interviewing for a new head teacher for a school he is a governor of .
With the new rules announced ,  we feel able to drive the 3 miles to our daughters home where tomorrow, we will have a socially distanced chat and then call on a close friend to deliver a birthday gift and hopefully have another socially distanced encounter . Life is looking up !
