Ault Park

Tuesday
The forecast called for mainly cloudy skies, but we actually got some decent spells of sunshine in the second half of the day, which was a pleasant surprise. We felt it was rather cool for a bike ride, but we fancied somewhere different to walk. When Laura was walking with one of her friends one day last week, her friend had taken her on some of the wooded trails in Ault Park. Ault Park is the fourth-largest park in Cincinnati, and is owned and operated by the Cincinnati Park Board. It lies in the Mount Lookout neighbourhood on the city's east side. The park is named in honor of Ida May Ault and her husband Levi Addison Ault, who was prominent in the development of Cincinnati parks. Whilst we had been to Ault Park several times, we have previously stuck to the central area around the gardens and pavilion, but we had never walked the wooded trails before. It was hard to believe at times you were in the middle of a sizable city. My blip shows the pavilion, built in Italian Renaissance style, and used for weddings and other events, the overlook, which affords a view over the Little Miami Valley, including Otto Armledder Park and Lunken Airport, as well as some Hawthorn blossom, a huge fungus and a beautiful wildflower which was very prolific along the trail.
