Another entry for my occasional A-Z of the Doric, the dialect spoken in the North-East of Scotland which is rich in words and phrases associated with the land and the sea.

GLAIKIT GILLIEPEROUS: A stupid, irresponsible, rough and ready fool.

A glaikit gillieperous is the kind of person who drives his/her car to the car park on the banks of the beautiful Ythan estuary, stuffs it with old tyres and then sets it alight.

Are these people born as idiots or have they been on a special training course?
