Crossing the Hodder
Day 3: Ascent of Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku (Mt Tappy)
Today is the long descent back down the Hodder River, mostly in a gorge. It's a lively river and I wouldn't want to deal with many more water in it than this. But we all crossed safely and no one slipped and fell in.
It was so hot we did a bit of ducking and floating. We'd emerge dripping wet and be dry in a short time. I still can't quite believe we achieved our goal. Many people never get to the top of Tappy, such is the nature of the terrain, weather and conditions.
A long day out with one injured person. Then the long drive back to Christchurch. I walked in my door at 10.20pm on Monday night, tired but with a big grin still all over my face.
We knocked the bug**r off :-)
If you missed the trip, it start from Friday.
