Tending their nest

Although I woke early this morning I decided to make coffee and look at posts on Blipfoto, and have an early breakfast of muesli, berries and yoghurt. Mainly as I had for some reason been awake in the night and had ended up solving a Times cryptic crossword puzzle.

As midday neared and the sun was warm, I decided to take my Pentax and run across to Coxs Bay Park, passing through the full length of Grey Lynn Park and then Hakanoa Reserve, a walkway and then onto the Coxs Creek Boardwalk. More than 90% of the run is in park or reserve, and one pedestrian lane. Makes it very pleasant.

I spotted these little Tauhou flying in and out of the canopy of a Cabbage Tree. Pleased that I managed at least one with the bird in focu, and readily identifiable.

Many more people about, and the cycle track in Grey Lynn Park had many young riders enjoying the activity and the collective aspect of it. While waiting their turn, the children were more or less maintaining a reasonable distance from each other. The parents were seated in small groups on a grassy slope to the side where they were also maintaining distance from other small groups.

Walkers and runners continue to make sure that there is space for someone coming toward them, to pass. At one point I crossed a narrow bridge over a creek and mangroves, and three youngsters started onto the bridge in front of me. I waved and they withdrew and waited and we exchanged hellos, thank yous and smiles. It feels reassuring.

One new case reported today, a child under four who comes from a home with someone who had tested positive from a connection with the Rest Home cluster in Christchurch. In one sense this is more a delayed case than a new one. So far everything is pointing towards the Government having got the timing of the changes right.

The weekend is going to pose a big test, and if there is no upsurge in cases within the next couple of weeks, we can feel even better.

The extra was taken from the apartment deck. One more of many evening skies.
