Water into Water
For a while now I've been intrigued by stop-action-photography, particularly the idea of capturing water drops. After about 30 min of setup I set off to try and capture something comparable to what I've seen here and on other sites.
The concept of patience is not something I fully embrace, and I needed lots for this!! It's one of those things that you can sink a lot of money into (laser triggers, electronic drop makers, etc...), but I think I actually got fairly good at timing when the drop would hit. It also helps that my D300 can shoot in bursts of 7-10, and that very low flash power (1/64-1/128) allows fast recycling of the flashes.
So I learned a lot, and may try again soon with glycerol thickened water. My hands are covered in biological stains that I used to try and add some colour (not a good idea, gels will work better!!).
So after several hundred attempts, this is my best result.
PS: This was partially driven by a blip I saw last week where someone captured the number 300 in the upper water droplet of a splash; it was their 300th blip. I was in awe then, and after spending 2+hours to get this, I can't even begin to imagine what it took to pull that off!!
