Not quite there

Having spent the winter being a grey and white bird on the shoreline, the Sanderling on the way back to their Arctic breeding grounds are just starting to get their breeding plumage. 
The chestnut wing coverts are the start of a real transformation which leaves the bird more chestnut than white.
Unfortunatley by then it will safely be in Iceland, Greenland or the like and we shall miss out.
