Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)
Having recently remarked on another blippers shot of a Goldfinch that we were currently not seeing them very often, they decided to prove me wrong. When I looked out at the feeders this morning they were the first birds I saw. Then during the day there was a;most always one inview when ever you looked.
A species becoming increasingly common in gardens, which perhaps accounts for the fact that there are now 4 times as many as there were in the 90s. With a typical life span of 2 years nests must be being successful to increase the population. The record for the oldest (proved by ringing records) is 10 years and 2 days.
