Staring above

I found this beautiful wooden sculpture, fiercely looking at me on the roof of an Buddhism temple.
It is similar to gargoyles, but this only has decorative purpose.

The wood became white silvery texture due to the worn from the weather, which actually makes this sculpture more mysterious.

Can you guess what animal is this supposed to be?
